Change is scary

Nothing great was ever achieved by staying in your comfort zone

Change can be terrifying. The idea of stepping into the unknown, leaving behind the comfort of what we know and embracing uncertainty can feel overwhelming. But staying the same remaining stuck in a situation that no longer serves us can be just as terrifing. Growth, after all, requires movement and movement requires courage.

The Fear of Change

Why is change so scary? Because it disrupts the familiar. Whether it’s changing jobs, moving to a new city, leaving a toxic relationship, or simply shifting your mindset. It introduces the possibility of failure, rejection, or discomfort. It’s easier to cling to what’s familiar, even if it’s not good for us, because at least it’s predictable.

But the truth is, nothing in life remains the same forever. Change is inevitable. The question is, do we embrace it, or do we resist it until it happens anyway?

The Fear of Staying the Same

While change is scary, so is staying stuck in a situation that drains us. Imagine looking back five years from now and realizing you’re in the exact same place, feeling the same frustration, dealing with the same struggles. That thought alone can be just as unsettling as the fear of change itself.

Staying the same can mean missed opportunities. That dream job, that healthier lifestyle, that personal growth—it all remains out of reach if we don’t take action. Staying the same can mean regret. The “what ifs” and “could have beens” can be heavier than the discomfort of trying.

Embracing Change

Change doesn’t have to be a massive, it can start small:

  • Taking one step toward a goal
  • Saying “yes” to a new opportunity
  • Letting go of something that no longer serves you
  • Challenging negative thought patterns

Yes, change is scary, but what’s scarier is waking up one day realizing you never took the chance to become who you were meant to be. As my mother says your not a tree, move!
