Down Syndrome affects physical growth, intellectual development and facial appearance, but it doesn’t define a person’s potential. With early intervention, quality education and the right support systems, people with Down Syndrome can achieve their goals. Here are the common characteristics of Down Syndrome:

  • Mild to moderate intellectual disabilities.
  • Distinctive facial features such as almond-shaped eyes and a flattened nose.
  • Low muscle tone.
  • Developmental delays in speech.

It’s important to focus on abilities rather than limitations. Encouragement, patience and acceptance can help people with Down Syndrome thrive.
