You’re Still Standing

At some point or another, life punches everyone in the face. – Jon Morrow

Let’s be honest. Life doesn’t wait for a convenient time to fall apart. One day you’re managing. The next, everything feels too heavy to carry. Whether it’s a sudden diagnosis, a health flare-up, a personal loss, or just the never-ending pressure of showing up in a world that isn’t designed for you; life has a way of swinging hard.

And when it hits, it hits everyone. No one escapes hardship not even those who seem to have it all together.

But for those of us navigating life with disabilities, that punch can feel relentless. It can come from your own body, which doesn’t always cooperate. It can come from the outside world, with its lack of access, empathy, or understanding. It can even come from within when you start to believe the lie that struggling means failing.

Here’s the truth: it doesn’t! Struggling means you’re living.

There’s this unspoken pressure to bounce back, to keep smiling, to prove you’re strong. But you don’t owe the world your mask. You don’t have to pretend you’re okay when you’re not.

Getting punched physically, emotionally or mentally hurts. And it’s okay to stay on the ground for a moment. To breathe. To cry. To feel it. Because pain is not weakness. It’s a part of being human and being human isn’t about avoiding the fall. It’s about learning how to rise again your way, in your time.

Resilience isn’t loud or perfect. It’s often quiet. Messy. Imperfect. And brave.

  • Some days resilience is showing up to work when your body says no.
  • Some days it’s just brushing your teeth.
  • Some days it’s saying, “I can’t today” and letting that be enough.

You don’t need to explain your pain to be valid. You don’t need to defend your pace to be worthy. Whether you rise quickly or slowly, whether you crawl or sprint the fact that you keep trying makes you extraordinary.

Everyone gets punched by life. Everyone. What matters most is how we treat ourselves and each other when it happens.

So when life hits, remember:

  • You’re allowed to hurt.
  • You’re allowed to ask for help.
  • You’re allowed to rest.
  • And you’re still strong, even if you feel broken.

Maybe today isn’t about getting ahead. Maybe today is about surviving. And that is enough.
